Leah Weiher and her daughter Laken in January 2024. Via: ABC News
Good morning,
A beautiful story to start your Friday. A mother of a one year-old is learning how to walk again, alongside her daughter.
Leah Weiher, 24, was paralyzed from the waist down after falling from a tree stand. After a seven-hour surgery, and more than a year later, she is learning to walk again.
Weiher told Good Morning America: "Not a lot of mothers can say that they learned to walk at the same time as their child, so it's very special. It's a good thing out of a bad situation."

😎 TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE… SUN

The sun, moon, and Earth will align perfectly together on Monday to produce a total solar eclipse. Here’s NASA’s interactive map to track the path.
The sky will darken, animals will act abnormally and humans might stare at the sky (with approved solar eclipse glasses, of course). But in some parts of the country, weather forecasts are not looking great.
This will be the last total solar eclipse visible in the lower 48 state until 2044, so buckle up for eclipse-mania.
DIDN’T IT JUST HAPPEN??
Yes. Back in August 2017, you might remember the iconic image of then President Trump staring, raw-eyed, into the eclipse. Don’t make that mistake, and be sure to buy the RIGHT glasses.
How it works: The sun is about 400 times bigger than the moon. It is, however, 400 times farther from the Earth. So, the uncommon celestial event happens when the sun and moon align — appearing the same size in the sky. Globally, it happens every 18 months.
Partial solar eclipses are more common and happen when there is imperfect alignment between the sun and moon — there will be two visible in the US next year.
Most of the major US cities on the total eclipse’s path will get about four minutes of darkness — over a minute longer than the 2017 eclipse.
A sense-ational experience: Experts say the temperature will drop, birds will go quiet, and street lights may flicker on.
One unique view: Several NASA pilots will chase the eclipse in special planes
ECONOMIC IMPACT
Making a long weekend of it, tourists are expected to spend an extra $1 billion across the US.
While nearly 32 million Americans live on the 115-mile-wide path, another four million people will travel to watch the full solar eclipse.
Hotels, campsites, and AirBnB’s have been sold out for months — or are crazy expensive (a Super 8 in Illinois is going for $949/night). Check out this map of bookings showing the path of eclipse totality.
BEWARE OF BAD WEATHER
And for all the people who’ve invested time and big bucks into going to the celestial event, the weather might disrupt their plans. But, forecasts shift 🤞
Here are the latest key messages for the upcoming total solar eclipse! If you're traveling, be sure to check the weather forecast for your travel days as well as eclipse day. Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding will be possible in the south-central U.S. Mon evening and Tues.

🇺🇸🇮🇱 BIDEN GETS TOUGH ON NETANYAHU, AS ISRAEL PREPARES FOR IRANIAN ATTACK
President Biden spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday, warning him for the first time, that future military support depends on additional Israeli steps to protect aid workers and civilians. It was their first conversation since seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers were killed in an IDF airstrike on Monday.
Biden called for an immediate (temporary) ceasefire, and warned Israel to take steps to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza or face consequences.
Hours later: Israel approved new border crossings to get more aid into Gaza.
MORE ON THE STRIKE
The workers were in a three-car convoy, marked with WCK’s logo, delivering food to isolated northern Gaza.
WCK founder, José Andrés, accused Israel of targeting the aid workers: “This was not just a bad luck situation where, 'Oops, we dropped a bomb in the wrong place.” His group is calling for an independent investigation.
Israel is conducting its own investigation. Preliminary reports suggest it had inaccurate intelligence that a Hamas terrorist was in the convoy. An IDF spokesperson says: “It was a mistake that followed a misidentification—at night during a war in very complex conditions. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Multiple aid groups — including WCK — have withdrawn service until Israeli military ensures safe passage. Israel barred the UN’s largest aid group, UNRWA, in Gaza after some employees were involved in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack.
IRAN’S THREATS
During the call, Biden and Netanyahu also spoke about Iran’s threats against Israel — which some suspect could escalate into an attack this weekend. It comes after a strike near Iran’s consulate in Syria killed several high-ranking Iranian military officials. Iran has vowed revenge.
The IDF is bolstering air defenses, disrupting satellite navigation systems that drones use by jamming GPS systems, and calling up reservists over the possibility of an Iranian attack.
While Iran funds and arms terror groups across the region that have been attacking Israel during the current war, the Islamic Republic has not yet targeted Israel directly. A direct attack would be a major escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
✈️ FLYING HIGH: FAA CLEARS NEW “BLENDED WING” PLANE FOR TEST FLIGHTS

Takeoff! We are one step closer to a brand new type of commercial plane–replacing existing planes with more of a flying wing. Think: B-2 bomber but with room for several hundred passengers!
The FAA has given the green light to aerospace company JetZero to start testing a smaller version of its blended-wing aircraft.
IT’S A GREAT DAY TO FLY
The demo plane, called Pathfinder, is a 1:8 scale model of the full-size plane and will launch test flights at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Commercial aircrafts have remained relatively unchanged since the late 1950s (basically a long tube with two wings attached).
CNN reports the design was inspired by the US military’s B-2 bomber. Other companies, like Boeing and Airbus, are also working on similar ideas.
A GREENER PATH
Typical planes used today can go up to 4,000 miles on a single tank of fuel, but the JetZero anticipates its Pathfinder to be able to reach 5,754 miles.
Tom O’Leary, co-founder and CEO of JetZero said, “We feel very strongly about a path to zero emissions in big jets, and the blended wing airframe can deliver 50% lower fuel burn and emissions.”
And the US Air Forces is taking a bet on the aerospace start up. A $235 million grant from the US government this past summer is aimed to help get Pathfinder to full-scale demos by 2027.
✔︎ Mo News Reality Check: We’ve got some time until you’re flying from NYC to LA in one of these. The soonest a large-scale version of this blended-wing plane could come out is 2027. Then, JetZero’s goal is to bring the plane to service as early as 2030.
