🗞 LET’S MAKE A DEAL: ACTORS AND STUDIOS REACH AGREEMENT

Fran Drescher and SAG actors are taking their victory lap after reaching a deal with big Hollywood studios, ending one of the longest labor strikes in Hollywood history. After 118 days, the new contract could see Hollywood up and running again within weeks.

WHAT’S IN THE DEAL?
The new three-year contract reportedly includes increases in compensation for streaming shows and films, better health care funding, concessions from studios on self-taped auditions, and guarantees that studios will not use artificial intelligence to create digital replicas of their likenesses without payment or approval.

IMPACT ON CONSUMERS
Even though Hollywood finally put an end to the industry's first dual strike (writers + actors) in 63 years, production won’t start up again for a few weeks.

The process to clear schedules and book studio space means cameras won't be rolling again until January at the earliest.

HOT STRIKE SUMMER EXTENDS TILL FALL
Actors certainly aren’t the only workers who walked off the job for better pay and other issues. President Biden talked with UAW workers yesterday at a Stellantis plant for the first time since their historic deal. The president told the crowd that they are changing "the face of the country economically" with their efforts.

AS FOR THE CARMAKERS
Biden says the factory he visited yesterday is reopening because of the deal, and will bring back “more than all of the 1,200 jobs lost, and at higher wages.” Stellantis is also adding about 1,000 new union jobs because investments in new battery manufacturing, the White House said.
